players only. takes place on Saturday, August 20th, 2016, in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the U.S. Bank Stadium

One of the blessings of having more money than you know what to do with is being able to take a flight anywhere in the fucking country to see your favourite band. And home for a short break from shooting in New Zealand, Sam's done just that. The Avenged Sevenfold, Volbeat, and of course, Metallica, ticket had been too tempting to resist. Never mind that they'd flown into L.A. and turned right back around and hopped over to Minneapolis. The concert had been sold out but a quick call to Lars had netted them backstage passes.

Watching the crowd filter in through Volbeat's set, everyone mostly in place for Avenged Sevenfold, Sam beams at Ryan, giving his husband's shoulder a quick nudge as the set starts. It's fucking brilliant and Sam gives the lead singer a wide grin as he comes off the stage. "Fantastic show, mate," he says with a nod, Ryan having gone off to grab them some drinks.

Matthew and the rest of the band was pumped and honored that Lars and even James asked them to open for them. He was glad that they played a free show on Thursday night, just to give Brooks some time. The new stadium was huge as they all went on a tour earlier that day. He thought that the show went off without a problem but his in-ear annoyed him all though the show.

Matt is wiping the sweat off with a towel when he looks up and sees who is talking to him. "Thanks." He holds out his hand for a shake. "Matt. I'm glad you loved the show." He grabs a bottle of water and downs half of it in one go. "It has been a bit since we played. New drummer." He's babbling so he shuts up.

"You couldn't tell," Sam says with a grin. "You guys sounded really good." And since they're home for a short break. "Where's your next show?"

"Not til the 10th. Mini tour." He grinned back. "I don't think I caught your name?" He laughs.

"Sam. Sam Worthington." Fuck. Celebrity must be going to his head. Sam's so fucking used to being trailed by paps and chased down under he forgets he's not exactly a household name to most people. He'll have to tell Ryan later. "That's too bad. I'll be out of the country then but I'll have to look up your schedule when we're back."

"Clash of the Titans?" He was trying to rack brain because Sam does look like a movie star. "Have you seen us before?" he bounces on the balls of his feet.

"Yeah, that's one of my mine," Sam grins, watching Matt, something about the guy's demeanour pinging hard. "And no, I haven't, but I definitely want to," he adds. "I thought you played a fantastic set and I can't imagine the guys would have you open for them if they weren't big fans too." He can see Ryan over Matt's shoulder, beers in hand, talking to someone. "That guy there, Ryan, he's a songwriter and my personal assistant. We flew back from New Zealand this morning, arrived in L.A. and flew right back out here."

"September and then Europe in January," Matt says as he looks over to Ryan and smiles. "That is a lot of flying in one day." He runs his fingers though his hair. "Lars and the boys put on an epic show."

Sam nods. "They do. They're fucking brilliant," he says, the pinging only growing louder. "So, lots of touring. Must be hard on your partner," he adds casually, testing the waters. "If you have one."

"So, you're a fan," Matt teases, but he's a metalhead too. "No partner. I'm the token single guy in the band." He gives Sam a look.

"I don't know whether that makes it harder or easier," Sam kids, certain at least one part of his radar is on point. But before he can say anything else, Ryan comes over, handing him his beer and getting an introduction to Matt before he excuses himself to find the washroom.

"All my boys are married or taken at least." He grins as he meets Ryan and sees the collar and he almost moans but he catches himself and bites his bottom lip. "It's both," he supplies. "Your boy is hot." He winks.

Sam's gaze narrows for an instant and he quickly glances around, making sure no one else is listening in. "Is that a compliment to me or him?" he asks, knowing if the second part of his radar is wrong, Matt won't know what the fuck he's talking about.

"Both, I think." He gives Sam a dimpled grin. "I haven't had a good scene in a good few years." He rubs the back of his neck, hoping like hell he's not wrong. Matt thinks he has a good radar.

"And you're desperate enough to risk outing yourself to me?" Sam says, a little surprised by Matt's boldness. "Or are you already out?"

"I'm out to my friends and family. I think the fans know too." He grins.

"That you're in the lifestyle?" Sam asks, again surprised. "Metalheads must be a lot different here than at home."

"Uh, haven't done anything in a long while." He sighs as he knows he shouldn't be talking about this, out in the open. "I had a lot of bad Sirs." He needs to shut up.

So safety not anonymity is the issue, Sam muses. "I don't like talking about this out here," he says, pulling his phone from his pocket. "But if you want to give me your number, I might have a solution for you." He puts in his PIN and opens up his contacts, offering the phone to Matt. "Not me. I'm pretty much exclusive these days, but a safe place with good people."

Matt smiles as he takes the phone and adds his name, number and email. "I would like to get back into the lifestyle," he says quietly. "I've had some really bad Sirs," he sighs.

"I can imagine," Sam says, taking his phone back, the increasing noise from the audience and the bustling of the roadies letting them know the main act's about to go on. "I'll give you a call. We can talk."

"Yeah, give me a call or we could do lunch in LA. I'm only about an hour away." He watches the roadies get the shit on stage. "It was awesome to meet you and Ryan."

"Lunch sounds good, and you too," Sam says, shaking Matt's hand again before he goes looking for Ryan.
